Duties of the Executor

 

Having obtained the grant of Probate, the Executor has full power and responsibility to undertake the administration of the estate. The administration of an estate may be divided into five elements or stages as follows:-

a) to identify the assets and beneficiaries of the estate;

b) to collect and realize the deceased’s assets;

c) to pay the deceased’s funeral and testamentary expenses as well as debts due and owing to other parties;

d) to distribute legacies; and

e) to complete the administration and distribute the residuary estate.
